These Candlemas candles are 7/16 inches diameter and 10 inches long. They are, in the Candlemas tradition, blessed at "The Presentation of Christ in the Temple, Commonly called The Purification of Saint Mary the Virgin"—also called Candlemas. The candles are then given to the congregants for the Candlemas procession. After the service, the attendees take their candles home and use them during the year—traditionally when praying for loved ones who are ill, and especially when the priest comes to visit the sick at the house. Another way to use them is to purchase enough to use during the year for family devotions. It is suggested that 12 to 15 candles should last the year for daily family devotions.
