Early American choral music, also typically referred to as shape note singing, is a tradition of music that was homegrown and very American had it’s heyday in the 1700s. At the turn of the 19th century, there was a move to imitate what was going on in Europe, and this style of music essentially died out. St. Andrew’s choristers particularly enjoy singing this music and have done their duty to keep it alive in the American Church and culture!
